Social media consultants have a reason to be excited. PayPal is making it easier for casual sellers, service providers and small businesses to receive payments on their Android smart phone or iPhone with its mobile payment solution, PayPal Here.

PayPal Here is the first in the world to allow merchants to receive almost all forms of payments like checks, credit and debit cards, and of course, PayPal. Plus, it makes sending invoices and setting payment terms a breeze especially for social media consultants who are always on the go.

How Does PayPal Here Work?

Although there are other services that provide mobile payments solutions on the market these days, what makes PayPal Here standout from them is how your clients can choose to pay you, which equates to more sales.

Merchants with PayPal Here get a free app as well as a thumb-sized, fully encrypted card reader. This makes it simple for small businesses and service providers to swipe cards using the card reader, scan checks and cards using the phone’s camera, or enter your customer’s card information manually into the app transforming your regular smart phone into a mobile payment solution.

How Much Does It Cost?

PayPal Here has the a very similar fee structure as other mobile payments solutions including Intuit’s GoPayment, North American Bancard’s Pay Anywhere and Twitter’s Square. There are no set-up fees or monthly account; Merchants pay 2.7% flat rate for swiped payments and 3.5% + $0.15 per transaction for keyed in payments.

Unlike GoPayment, it is not clear how PayPal Here applies processing limits and reserves on swiped transactions. On the other hand, it is similar to Square where funds in excess of $1000 for keyed in payments within any seven day period will be held in a 30-day reserve prior to being released or withdrawn.

What Sets It Apart?

 Perhaps one of the best features of PayPal Here that any social media consultant will appreciate is its integration with their regular PayPal accounts. This alone gives them a wide range of great features that other competitors simply can’t provide.

You can choose to transfer your money to an attached bank account or use “PayPal Business Debit Card” to withdraw from ATM’s or to make purchases. If you choose to do the latter and use the debit card on eligible purchases, you will receive 1% cash back which results in an effective reduction of your processing fee to 1.7%.

PayPal Here comes with our world-class fraud management capabilities, and our 24×7 live customer support.” I think we would all agree that PayPal is indeed a proven payment and funds transfer instrument.

PayPal Here is available in the US, Canada, Hong Kong and Australia to select merchants. Very soon however, it will be made available to everyone. If you are outside the initial launch countries, don’t worry; PayPal will be making it available to other countries soon as well. A Good Social Media Presence and Sweet Potato Casserole Are Similar

As a social media expert and relationship marketing specialist, I never miss a chance to catch up with friends and colleagues. I love this business because I am a social creature. Last week I had the pleasure of being asked to serve at the Teacher’s Holiday Luncheon at St. Joseph’s school. This had been one of my favorite volunteer activities when my kids were at St. Jo’s and I was so happy to be included. Not only does it offers the chance to give thanks to the faculty and staff that give so much of themselves for the betterment of out kids, it features fabulous dishes lovingly prepared and delivered by parents for the enjoyment of the staff.
We have all seen our share of sweet potato casseroles over the years and unless you are a huge sweet potato fan (like me), probably give them little attention. This one caught my eye right away. The potatoes were sliced, not mashed. The sauce -more like a coating, was sort of creamy. What were the main ingredients I wondered? Our librarian called it out…”cream cheese I think” she said with the clarity of a master of the tombs. Ahhhh, yes, cream cheese.
Come Sunday, I decided we would give cream cheese and sweet potatoes a try. I can’t take too much credit for the originality of the thinking, but, I will take all the credit for the absolutely incredible dish that resulted. The sliced potatoes give it body and the “sauce, almost marshmallow like in texture was lightly sweet and slightly rich but not a bit over so. This casserole is now my new favorite. Period. Though I say this serves 6 to 8, if you love it as much as I did, you had better double the recipe.

Ginger Scalloped Sweet Potato Casserole (serves 6-8)

4 lg Ruby Garnet yams
1 8 oz block cream cheese
4 T butter
1/2 c brown sugar
2 T fresh grated ginger

Peel and slice yams. Soften cream cheese and butter. With a hand blender (or whisk) whip the cream cheese, butter, brown sugar and ginger together well. Toss with yams. Bake, covered 30 min. at 350 degrees. Uncover for 15 more. Do not over bake.

As I pulled this fabulous casserole out of the oven, it started me thinking about how a good social media presence and a great sweet potato casserole have a lot in common-lightly sweet and slightly rich but not a bit over. Social media gives you the opportunity to connect and engage with lots of folks you otherwise would never have met. leveraging your social presence can be a boon to business but it really is a relationship. Use it wisely. Of course use of the right keywords, proper posting techniques, etc are a piece of it, but none of that matters if you do not build the relationship. Be of and offer quality. Offer relevant content. Be interesting, humorous and positive. Be the best sweet potato casserole you can be!

Why Do I Need Keyword Research and SEO?

As a Relationship Marketing Specialist, Speaker and Coach, I speak to lots of people about the use of social media and Internet marketing. Of course, one of the obvious questions I often get is; “How do I get more Fans, followers and qualified leads?”.  There are many tools, strategies and methodologies to improve your online marketing results but inevitably, the discussion has to come around to mechanics. Even if you are making good connections, putting out relevant content, and engaging with your audience you may not be getting the best results you could. Huh? Why not? Aren’t these the very activities we are told time and again yield better online marketing results? Yes Indeed, but, without attention to the mechanics, your efforts simply aren’t maximized.

What does that mean? Posting at the best time? Using photos and infographics to increase engagement? Asking questions? Yes to all, but, the most basic and important mechanics anyone hoping to leverage online marketing MUST use is keyword research and Search Engine Optimization.

Now before you get all whiny about it, let’s just discuss why keyword research and SEO are so important. Without good utilization of the best keywords lots of your efforts are being wasted. Yes, yes, I know, you know what your keywords are, don’t you? Let’s assume for the moment that you Do actually know what your keywords are. The next question is are you utilizing them correctly?

Think about this; Nothing and I mean NOTHING happens on the internet that is not organized around the written word. The internet is based on the written word and every word you put out there is categorized, indexed and complied. Even without thinking about it, you are always interfacing with search. Every single time. Every single word.

Now lots of folks think of SEO as some mumbo jumbo used by high pressure squeeze page marketers and certainly these people well utilize SEO. Since however, every single word entered on a social platform, blog or public website is, as I said, categorized, indexed and compiled, unless you are utilizing the best keywords for your business, in the proper way, your interaction can be a lot like a dud firecracker. You light it and run, waiting for the report but none comes-because it didn’t have the right firepower.

As for keyword research, many businesses think they know and are using the best keywords for their market. Maybe but unless you have done keyword research, that is not a given. If you are a mechanic for example, “auto repair” seems to be an obvious keyword. It may be but unless you understand the queries and competition on that keyword, you really can’t know that. If you are one among 200 local auto repair shops, competition is high for that keyword. Perhaps you are a local retailer with little competition that also sells online. You probably need two different campaigns. One for local search and one for internet search. Those two markets may call for different keywords. Here is where the best SEO practices come in. Just because a keyword well suits your business does not mean it is the best keyword for your business. For example, it is very hard to rank for the keyword “used car” but it is infinitely more possible to rank for “pre-owned luxury vehicles”.  While you may get less traffic in general, the traffic you get will be much more qualified.

So, you say you are not interested in search results because social is driving your business. Guess what, today, Facebook is the most trafficked site on the web. Or, have you noticed that Google Plus results are some of the top search results you may be getting. Yup, social is in there and it is important. Of course none of us know the super secret algorithms used by Google. What we do know is this, every word entered in public on the web is categorized, indexed and complied so why not make them count?

Now you don’t have to be an internet marketing ninja or spammer or geek to best utilize keyword research and SEO. Some simple research and analysis of relevant keywords along with a plan consistently applied will improve your results. Period. You will grow to love your written words as they increase your engagement. If in doubt about your ability or understanding of good keyword research and SEO, seek a professional’s help.
